SANTA CLARA, Calif. --- Sophomore Filip Zivkovic capped an unbeaten dual singles season and led the Portland Pilots to a sixth-place finish at the West Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Championships. Portland fell to Loyola Marymount in the fifth-place match on Sunday at The Degheri Tennis Center.

The No. 6 Pilots opened the tournament on Friday with a 4-1 loss to third-seeded Saint Mary’s. After dropping the doubles point, Zivkovic defeated Lucas Tirelli in straight sets at No. 2 singles, but the Gaels picked up singles wins at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 6 to secure the opening round victory.

In the first consolation match on Saturday, Portland bounced back to sweep Gonzaga, 4-0. Zivkovic knocked off Roman Dojcak (6-2, 6-3), following Portland taking the doubles point. Junior Joel Kincaid also won at No. 1 singles, while senior Charlie Yemm clinched the match with a win at No. 6.

"We bounced back very nicely after losing a hard fought match to Saint Mary's,” Portland coach Aaron Gross said. “Gonzaga played really hard and we weathered it. Nearly everyone contributed in either singles or doubles or both so it was a very good team effort."

In Sunday’s match against the Lions, LMU took the doubles point, but Portland bounced back with the first singles point as Yemm defeated Stefan Nicolic at No. 6, 6-2, 6-3. LMU secured the match with wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4. Zivkovic’s match was unfinished, as was freshman Bryan Thorp at No. 5

Zivkovic capped his spring dual season with an 18-0 record, including three matches in which he was leading but did not finish due to the match being decided.

The Pilots end their season with a 12-9 overall record.
