NEW ORLEANS – The University of Portland men’s and women’s track and field programs each posted top 10 team cumulative grade-point averages in the nation and earned Team Academic Awards from the USTFCCCA, it was announced on Tuesday. The UP women’s team ranked seventh nationally with a 3.447 team GPA, while the men’s team ranked ninth nationally at 3.212.
For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet. The team must also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA.
The Pilots also had four individuals recognized as members of the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team. On the women’s side, Dana Morgan, Natalie Hemphill and Adrienne Nova were awarded, while John Moore was the lone men’s recipient.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective event.
