EUGENE, Ore. --- The Oregon Ducks hit 13 three-pointers and got a career-high 32 points from Amanda Johnson during a 95-68 win over the Portland Pilots in a non-conference women’s basketball game at McArthur Court on Wednesday night. The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for Portland, which drops to 3-3 on the season.
The Ducks (6-1) built a 17-point lead at the half and never looked back. After Portland briefly pulled within 14 points after a lay-up from UP senior guard Laiken Dollente early in the second stanza, the Ducks went off on a lengthy 21-10 run to push the lead to 72-47 with 11:31 left to play.
Portland wouldn’t get closer than 19 points the rest of the way as Oregon eventually pushed the lead to 27 points.
Dollente hit all three of her three-pointers and shot eight of 10 from the free throw line to reach 20 points for the first time this season. Junior Tara Cronin came on strong in the second half to finish with 14 points, while junior Lauren Angel and sophomore Alexis Gannis both scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Gannis just missed the double-double with a team-high nine rebounds. It’s only the second time this season that Gannis did not reach double digits in rebounds. She did help the Pilots to a 44-42 edge on the glass.
Johnson hurt the Ducks inside and out, finishing 13 of 18 from the floor. She was 4-for-5 on three-pointers and she was one of four Ducks to score in double figures.
Oregon shot 48.6 (36-for-74) overall and went 13-for-22 behind the three-point arc.
The Pilots shot 34.8 (24-for-69) from the field, connected on five three-pointers and went 15 of 21 from the line.
Oregon capitalized on 24 UP turnovers, which led to 29 points for the Ducks. The Pilots countered with just six points on 15 UO turnovers. Oregon’s bench outscored that of Portland’s 23-6.
The Ducks were feeling it during the first half, shooting 50 percent (18-for-36) from the field en route to a 49-32 half-time lead. Oregon’s Victoria Kenyon, who hit three of UO’s six first-half three-pointers, matched a career high in points with 11 during the first 20 minutes.
Dollente and Angel hit back-to-back three-pointers during the game’s opening minutes to give UP an early 6-2 lead. But the Ducks responded and built the 17-point lead, their biggest of the game to that point.
Portland next returns home for a pair of games at the Chiles Center this weekend. The Pilots are set to host the Pacific Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday before welcoming the Boise State Broncos to town for a 2:00 p.m. tilt on Sunday.
