Five Pilots Travel to NCAA Track Preliminary Championships

Five University of Portland runners will compete at 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary Championship this week in Austin, Texas. Jared Bassett (Steeplechase), David Perry (10K), Scott Fauble (10K), Charlie McDonald (10K) and Kellie Houser (10K) will represent the Pilots.

Portland has had a qualifier 20 straight years at the NCAA Championships and will look to continue that streak this week. The top 12 qualifiers from each event advance from the Preliminary competitions to the national meet scheduled for June 6-9 in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Preliminary Championship competitions will be held May 24-26. The East region will be held at the North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla. and the West region at Texas in Austin, Texas.
