PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland freshman midfielder Eddie Sanchez exploded for seven goals during October to earn UP U.S. Bank Student-Athlete of the Month honors. Sanchez easily leads the West Coast Conference in goals and points and is among the nation's leaders as well.

Sanchez's seven goals included a hat trick during a 4-1 win at Santa Clara on Oct. 20. The native of Canby, Ore., is the first UP player to register a hat trick since 2003. He also had three game-winners, while 17 of his 27 shots during October were on-target for a shots on-goal percentage of .630. He began the month with two goals, including the game-winner, during a 3-2 win at San Francisco on Oct. 4. He also had the winning goals against both San Diego and Santa Clara.
