It's hard to believe it's already December and before you know it we will be on Christmas break. A whole month without school is hard to think about during these next two weeks while our team will be cramming for finals along with practice and some big games. So, without further ado, I will update you on what your lovely Pilots have been up to in the past week!
Thursday was, of course, Thanksgiving! I hope everyone had a glorious Thanksgiving filled with family, friends, and lots of great food! Don't you worry your pretty little heads; the Portland Pilots were up at 8 am, bright and early on Thursday for practice in preparation for last Friday's game against Columbia University. Following a solid morning practice, it was time for some good food and company. Some of us piled into cars and headed to Washougal, Washington, where Coach Sollars and his beautiful wife Pam hosted a lovely Thanksgiving afternoon and evening. Others joined their family, friends, or boyfriends for the holiday, but needless to say, it seemed everyone had an awesome Thanksgiving.
WHO WANTS TO HEAR SOME FUN THANKSGIVING PILOTS TRIVIA?!
• Senior forward Amy Jo Pupa, or as I call her "Famous Amous," has an intense and special love for green bean casserole.
• Ms. Pam (Coach Sollars' wife) makes sure to prepare mac and cheese every Thanksgiving in honor of graduated player NaKeisha Brown.
• Freshman guard Stefania Sideri's birthday was on Thursday as well! Two celebrations in one!
• CB celebrates Canadian Thanksgiving in October.
• I enjoy cranberry sauce…
Well now that you learned a little more about us, here is a pic of some of us living it up at Coach's house on Thursday!
Before we knew it, Thanksgiving was over and that meant GAME DAY! The Lions, coming into the game 1-4, were ready for a win. However, your Pilots were not going to hand that W over to Columbia. We battled hard and handed the Lions their fifth loss of the season with a 58-42 win. Our defense held the Lions to just 11 field goals overall and 21.2 percent shooting. Columbia never got closer than eight points, while we were able to push the lead to 21 points in the second half. Although a win, we are never satisfied with our play and there is always room for improvement. That means lots of film and specific focus in practice.
This week, we are working on preparing for a tough match-up against the Pac- 12 Oregon State Beavers. As of now, we Pilots are 1-1 against Pac-12 schools, and looking to improve to 2-1 after Friday night. These next couple of practices will allow us to organize and focus for a great game to end the week. SOOOOOO, everyone come out to support you women's basketball squad against OSU 7pm on Friday night! We would LOVE to see you out at the Chiles Center.
AND while you're at the game Friday, be sure to pick up one of our super ballin new posters for the year. CHECK IT:
Until next time, peace and love yall
