Pilots Begin Four Match Road Trip in California
PORTLAND, Ore. --- Returning to action for the first time in almost two weeks, the Portland Pilots men’s tennis team begins a four match road trip this weekend in California, resuming West Coast Conference play in the process.
Portland (7-4, 1-0 WCC) last played on March 2, losing a 5-2 decision to the then-No. 45 Oregon Ducks.
The four match trip begins at No. 51 San Diego (6-4, 0-1 WCC), the second conference opponent on Portland’s schedule this season. Portland is looking for its first win against the Toreros, who have taken all eight matches between the two programs.
After taking on the Toreros, Portland heads to Riverside to take on the UC Riverside Highlanders (2-11), who have lost five straight.
Saturday’s match against the Toreros is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start. Sunday’s match will take place at Canyon Crest Community College, starting at 11 a.m.
With 10 matches remaining before WCC play, the Pilots have a grueling schedule ahead of them. The Pilots have four ranked teams schedule in the next month-plus: at San Diego (No. 51), at Cal Poly (No. 45), Pepperdine (No. 12), and BYU (No. 39).
Portland is led by senior Jackson Martin, who has won nine of his last ten matches. Juniors Ratan Gill (8-3), Alex Ferrero (7-3), and Michel Hu Kwo (7-4) are also enjoying good seasons.
