CORVALLIS, Ore--- The Pilots were supposed to use the Oregon State High Performance Twilight Meet just as a tune-up for their conference meet next weekend. Freshman thrower Maddy Duretete did not get the message.
Duretete went ahead and set the school record in the hammer throw last Friday with a toss of 40.06 meters.
"It is an outstanding performance for a freshman. There are a lot of outstanding performances to come for her." Said throws coach Todd Wojchik.
Aside from Duretete’s breakthrough performance, Julia Fonk finished second in the women’s 800-meter run with a personal best time of 2:11.68.
Middle distance specialist Izaic Yorks ran his way to a 3:49.94 and took first place in the men’s 1,500-meter run.
Katherine Maus placed second in both the long jump and triple jump with marks of 5.41 meters and 11.48 meters, respectively.
The Pilots have one last weekend of regular season competition at Oregon Twilight this Friday and Pacific Twilight this Saturday. Next weekend, the team will head down to Willamette University in Salem, Ore. for their conference meet.
