PORTLAND, Ore. --- Jaime Velasco scored twice, Eddie Sanchez added a goal and goalkeeper Jason Dodson made five saves as the Portland Pilots shutout the Oregon State Beavers 3-0 in a non-conference men's soccer match played on Thursday night at Merlo Field. The win improves the Pilots' record to 14-0 all-time against the Beavers in Portland.
Â
The win is also the third straight for the Pilots, who move to 4-2-0 on the year. The Beavs drop to 5-2-0.
Â
After a mostly uneventful 40 minutes to begin the game, Velasco sparked the Portland offense with his first goal of the match in the 42nd minute. On a nice ball sent over the top by freshman Matthew Coffey, Velasco chipped a shot over OSU keeper Matt Bersano to hand the Pilots a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Â
Sanchez then scored on a world-class strike in the 59th minute. After a long goal kick by Dodson, the ball took a couple of deflections before Sanchez buried a side volley into the left corner of the net from 20 yards out. It's the third goal of the year for the freshman out of Canby, Ore., and it gave Portland a comfortable 2-0 lead.
Â
Dodson took over from there after the Pilots were forced to play a man down after a questionable red card was shown to Dustin Munger in the 80th minute. Dodson, a redshirt-senior, made a game-saving stop in the 83rd minute on a point-blank shot from Daniel Van Fleet. He also made a save on a shot by Brenden Anderson in the 88th minute.
Â
Velasco then netted his second goal of the game and his third of the season with just 19 seconds remaining. After a failed clearance ended up at his feet, the sophomore out of Beaverton, Ore., drilled a shot into the left corner to seal the victory.
Â
Seven of Portland's 10 shots were on-goal, while the Beavers finished with 13 shots overall and five on-goal.

The Pilots next take the field on Friday, Sept. 27 when they host the Denver Pioneers at Merlo Field. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. and the game is part of a soccer double-header as the Portland women follow with a match against Wyoming.
