GRESHAM, Ore--- In lieu of a spring break trip to Cabo or Cancun, the Pilots got their thrills at the Saints Open hosted by Mt. Hood Community College. Over 550 athletes competed at the meet, and the Pilots finished their spring break with some solid marks.
Â
Melissa Baller (12.72) and Hannah Souders (12.74) placed third and fourth in their heat of the 100-meter dash. Both of those times move the women into the top-10 list for the Pilots, and Souders' mark was a personal best.
Â
In her first ever outdoor 800-meter, Madison Leek placed second in her heat and ran 2:17.85. Leek set school records in both the indoor 400-meter and 600-meter earlier this year.
Â
Gavin Flynn set a personal best in the men's 800-meter. His time of 1:57.60 placed him third in his heat.
Â
Closing in 59 seconds over the last 400 meters of his 1,500-meter race, Kent Nowak won his heat with a personal best time of 4:09.88.
Â
"Everyone competed really well today," said sprints coach Chad Colwell. "We got a lot of individual personal records and made good improvements both in the technical events and effort wise."
Freshman Triton Pitassi tied the school record in the hammer throw with his toss of 46.16 meters. The throw tied Bryan Moore's mark set 20 years ago in 1994.
"Triton has been working hard. I'm excited he tied the school record in his third college meet," said head coach Rob Conner. "I'm excited to see how more progress he can make this season."

The Pilots head down to Eugene next weekend for the Oregon Preview.
