PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland men's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 victory over the Montana Grizzlies Sunday morning at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center in the home opener for the Pilots. Portland improves to 4-1 with the win, while Montana drops to 0-4.

"We usually have tough matches with Montana, but we played very well today and were able to get on top of them early for a fairly routine win," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said.

The Pilots set the tone with a dominating doubles performance at all three positions.

The momentum carried over to singles as Portland won five of the six matches in straight sets. Senior Steffen Dierauf played his first dual match at No. 1 singles and improved to 5-0 on the season with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Tomasz Soltyka.

Senior Reid deLaubenfels came back from a first set loss to knock off Semion Branzburg in three sets at No. 2, while Portland's four true freshmen cruised at the bottom of the lineup as Mathieu Garcia, Michail Perfolarakis, Pierre Garcia and Jared Madison each picked up straight set wins.

"It was a good test for us after losing to Washington on Friday," Gross noted. "I think some of our young guys may have had their confidence shaken a bit, but they didn't show it today. Steffen played great at No. 1 and Mike Pervolarakis played very well getting his first win on our courts of his career. I thought everyone did a good job mentally today. Reid was not at his best, but fought back after losing the first set to get the win, which is a true sign of a great competitor."

Portland will take a couple of weeks off before returning to the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center to host Illinois State and Idaho on March 7 and March 8, respectively. Both matches will start at 10 a.m. will free live video and stats.
