PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots scored first, but the Loyola Marymount Lions responded with seven unanswered runs en route to a 7-1 win on Saturday afternoon at Joe Etzel Field. The win gives the Lions the first two games of the West Coast Conference series with the finale scheduled for Sunday.
Â
It looked promising early for the Pilots (9-35, 4-16 WCC), who scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning. With one out, Brady Kerr singled with a hard-hit ball that bounced off of LMU starting pitcher Trevor Megill. The right-hander would stay in the game and promptly got Turner Gill to fly out for the second out of the inning. Kevin Wade then sent a line drive single to center field that was mishandled by Austin Miller, allowing Kerr to come all the way around to score to Portland a 1-0 lead.
Â
But the lead was short-lived as Megill (3-3) recovered and held the Pilots scoreless the rest of the way. He allowed only four hits in 8.0 innings, struck out eight and walked just two. Brandon Horth allowed a hit in the bottom of ninth, his one inning of work.
Â
Meanwhile the Lions (27-16, 13-7 WCC) provided with Megill with an ample amount of runs as LMU scored two in the top of the second, one in the fifth, two more in the six and two in the eighth. Four different Lions tallied two hits each as LMU out-hit the Pilots 14-5.
Â
Ted Boeke was 2-for-3 with two RBI's, two runs scored and a solo home run. Miller also drove in a pair.
Â
Kerr had three of Portland's hits, while Wade had the other two.
Â
Portland starter Kurt Yinger (2-7) takes the loss after surrendering seven runs, six earned, on 12 hits in 7.2 innings. He fanned five and didn't issue a walk. Freshman relievers Jake Hawken and Jordan Horak combined to pitch the final 1.1 innings.

Sunday's finale is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
