Women's Schedule PORTLAND, Ore. --- With NCAA regionals just around the corner, members of the Portland Pilots men's and women's track and field teams were at the Portland Twilight on Sunday night held on the Lewis & Clark campus. Regional qualifiers were scattered throughout the competition for the Pilots, as the runners, jumpers, and throwers in purple showed well in the last meet before the NCAA First Round.
"This was a great meet in ideal conditions," said women's head coach Ian Solof. "Our 1500 runners did an amazing job and I was really impressed with Marci Witczak in the 5k. Kaylie Van Loo also came through with a huge throw to get a regional qualifier."
On the track, Portland went 1-2-3 in the 200 meter with Katherine Maus crossing the line first with a time of 25.11, followed by Madison Leek (2
nd, 25.55) and Hannah Souders (3
rd, 26.18). Souders also placed well in the 400 meter with her time of 58.67 landing her in 2
nd. In the longer distances, Pilots showed well in the 1500 meter as Tansey Lystad was the first Portland runner to cross the finish line with her time of 4:18.90 which nabbed her 3
rd place overall; Julia Fonk (7
th, 4:22.59) and Taryn Rawlings (12
th, 4:25.20) were the next runners in purple to cross the line. Marci Witczak finished the 5000 meter race in 17:03.64 which put her on the podium in 2
nd place.
In field events for the meet, Nathan DeVaughn captured 1
st with his leap of 22'8" in the long jump. Joining the 1
st place ranks was Kaylie Van Loo who threw the javelin a regional qualifying distance of 149'. Katherine Maus finished in 2
nd in the long jump with a distance of 16'11.5".
Men's runners showed well in both the short and long distances. Mark Roetcisoender finished 2
nd in the 100 meter with his time of 11.32, while Korey Thieleke grabbed 1
st place in the 400 meter by over a second with a time of 47.18. 3:43.23 was all 5
th place finisher Ryan Poland needed to complete the 1500 meter race. Pilots took 2
nd in both the 3000 and 5000 meter with Scott Fauble (3000 meter) crossing the line in 8:05.62 and Alex Dillard (5000 meter) in 14:24.24.
"First off, hats off to Chad Colwell for putting on a great event; we received nothing but compliments on the meet. With the live coverage on Flotrack the event is sure to grow next year," stated men's head coach Rob Conner. "Secondly, hats off to all the Pilots, they competed to their fullest. It is a real tribute to the people we have on the team. We got some tremendous performances. Hats off to those seniors who competed for the last time tonight. We will certainly miss them but will always be proud of their contribution."
The Pilots will next be in action at the NCAA First Round in Austin, Texas on May 28-30.
