Video StreamAUSTIN, Texas --- With two days down and one to go at the NCAA Preliminary Championships, two Portland Pilots have qualified for the NCAA National Championship. On Friday, Korey Thieleke broke his personal record and school record again, running the 400 meters in 46.61. It has been over 30 years since a Pilot sprinter has competed at the National Championship.
Thieleke's performance came less than 24 hours after teammate Scott Fauble's 10,000 meter time of 29:43.96 earned him 2
nd place as he became the first Pilot on the weekend to book a ticket to Eugene, Ore. where the National Championship will take place on June 10-13.
On Thursday, four other Pilots completed their designated events. In the men's 10,000 meter Timo Goehler and Alex Dillard finished with times of 30:56.02 and 32:06.71 respectively. For the women, Taryn Rawlings ran 800 meters in 2:10.74 and in her last race as a Pilot, Julia Fonk finished the 1,500 meter in 4:38.51.
