PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland Pilots Track and Field senior Korey Thieleke has been named the US Bank Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of April. Records and first place finishes were scattered throughout the month for the sprinter.
Thieleke started the month off at the Stanford Invitational where he finished third in his heat in the 400 meter with a time of 47.82. At the same meet, he also ran a 21.71 in the 200 meter which placed him in 11
th overall.
His best performances of the month occurred on back-to-back days at the Mt. SAC Relays and Long Beach State Invitational. At the Mt. SAC Relays Thieleke broke a 34 year old school record in the 400 meter with his time of 47.21. That record only lasted 24 hours before he broke it again at the Long Beach State Invitational with a time of 46.82. This time not only gave Thieleke the first place finish, but was also one of the top 20 times in the West Region and qualified him for NCAA Regionals which will take place in late May.
The 400 meter was not the only event where Thieleke found success in April. He finished the month off strong with a first place finish, a personal record, a stadium record, and a track record in the 200 meter with a time of 21.18 at the Oregon State University High Performance meet.
