Complete Men's and Women's Team ReleaseNEW ORLEANS, La. --- The Portland Pilots men's and women's track and field teams received a variety of recognition from the USTFCCCA for their work on the track and in the classroom last season. Ten individuals and both teams earned All-Academic recognition with the women's team earning the fourth highest GPA in the nation.
"I am incredibly proud of our team for their amazing academic success," said women's head coach Ian Solof. "Portland is a challenging private school and most of our athletes major in subjects like engineering, biology, and nursing. We really emphasize success in the classroom as well as D1 track success and we are fortunate that these great student-athletes are drawn to our program."
The USTFCCCA awards teams with at least a 3.00 team GPA. In competition, the women's team sent five runners to the NCAA West Regional and one runner qualified for the NCAA National Championship. In the classroom they were able to earn a 3.62 GPA which was the fourth highest in the nation. The men's team had six runners at the NCAA West Regional and three at the NCAA National Championships and earned a 3.30 GPA.
All-Academic Individuals were selected if they accomplished one of a variety of athletic accomplishments and also achieved a 3.25 GPA. Three men and seven women made the list to bring the total to ten Pilots.
