2015 Women's SchedulePORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots men's cross country team opened up the 2015 season with a meet against Lewis & Clark, Portland State, and Pacific and the women faced the same opponents with the addition of Oregon State on Tuesday evening at the Lewis & Clark Westmoreland cross country course. Pilot junior Andy Holstrom claimed the official first place finish for the men's race, while freshman Taryn Rawlings was the first to cross the line for the Portland women in third.
Rawlings completed the flat, grass 5k course in 18:07.40 and the next two finishers for Portland were junior Lindsay Tompkins (5th, 15:25.5) and junior Julia Gullikson (10
th, 18:49.90). In head-to-head battles the Pilots overcame Lewis & Clark, Pacific, and Portland State, but fell just short of Oregon State.
The men's race covered four miles, and even though Holstrom (20:29.00) was the first official Pilot to finish, teammate Logan Orndorf finished six seconds ahead but was running unattached so his score did not count. Freshman Carter Aebi placed second with a time of 20:31.80. As a team, Portland beat each of its three opponents.
"Great summer, great start," said men's head coach Rob Conner. "Glad to see those guys do well. They have been working hard."
The Pilots will next be in action on Friday, Sept. 11 at the Western Oregon Invite in Monmouth, Ore.
