SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- Portland freshman Ellie Woerner scored in double figures for the seventh straight game, but it was the San Diego Toreros who prevailed on Thursday night with a 71-43 win over the Pilots in a West Coast Conference women's basketball game played at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. Woerner scored 16 points against the Toreros to continue her impressive streak.

The Toreros (15-2, 5-1 WCC) jumped ahead by double digits mid-way through the first quarter and never looked back en route to the win. Maya Hood led the way with a game-high 20 points. She also had a team-high six boards and was one of three Toreros to score more than 10 points.

Woerner went a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line, knocked down a pair of three-pointers and recorded her 15th game this season with double digits in points. She leads the Pilots (2-15, 0-6 WCC) in scoring this year with a 12.5 points per game mark.

Sophomore post Sara Zaragoza had a nice outing, just missing a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds. The nine boards are a season-best for the native of Madrid, Spain, and they match a team season-high for the Pilots.

San Diego shot 46.3 percent, combined for five three-pointers and went 16 of 21 from the foul line. Portland shot 40.0 percent overall, hit two three's and was 5-for-6 from the stripe. 22 UP miscues led to a 35-6 edge for the Toreros in points off of turnovers, and San Diego won the battle of the boards 34-25.

The Pilots did record a season-high eight blocks, with freshman post Julie Spencer claiming a career-best three blocked shots.

Portland next flies to Utah to face the BYU Cougars in Provo on Saturday. Tip-off at the Marriott Center is set for 1 p.m. (Pacific).
