With competition ranging from college to professional athletes, the Pilots showed well in their home city.
Woody Kincaid and Reid Buchanan were the first runners to compete for Portland in the 3,000m. Facing off against four of the top professional runners from across the globe, Kincaid placed 3
rd and Buchanan finished in 5
th. Both runners set personal records with times of 7:48.89 and 7:54.69, respectively.
Kincaid's mark not only set a new school record, but is currently the top time in the NCAA at that distance. He now is the national leader in both the 3,000m and the 5,000m. With only a month and a half left in the season, his odds of competing at the National Indoor Track & Field Championships are very high, with the top 16 times advancing.
In the shorter distances,
Christina Francisco placed first in the 200m with a time of 26.69. Fellow Pilots, Madeleine Hutson, Hannah Souders, Dani Castillow, and Mariela Martinez finished in 5th through 8th, respectively.Nathan DeVaughn qualified for the 60m finals with a time of 7.18. Maria Montt took to the blocks in the women's 60m with NCAA National Champion Jenna Prandini in the same heat. Prandini took first in the heat, with Montt in second with a time of 8:04, also qualifying for the finals. Both DeVaughn and Montt did not compete in the finals in order to focus energy on next week's meet.
The Pilots will next be in action on Jan. 29 and 30 at the University of Washington Invite.
