PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots were overcome in three sets by LMU on Saturday afternoon in the Chiles Center. The Lions won the West Coast Conference match with set scores of 25-19, 25-19, and 25-18.

Tied at 8-8 in the first set, LMU (17-9, 8-6 WCC) went on a run to take the lead at 15-10. The Pilots (14-11, 7-6 WCC) fought back to close the gap with kills from Sarah Savoca and Katie Sullivan, along with an ace from Emma Scanlan. Sullivan, Savoca, and Brittney Markwith then sparked a four-point run, but the Lions continued their momentum, finishing the set 25-19.

Battling for points to start the second set, LMU took a lead at 10-6 just before Hannah Troutman and Reghan Pukis recorded kills to bring the Pilots within two. The Lions increased their lead by four moments later off of kills from Sarah Sponcil and Erin Williams. LMU then continued to drive through the last deciding points to win by six.

With both teams even to start the third set, the Lions produced a six-point run to surge ahead. Savoca and Sullivan added a block to Troutman's two kills, but LMU responded with another run. Pukis attempted to start a comeback at 24-18 with a kill, but the Lions held onto to win the match.

Troutman led the Pilots with nine kills, followed by Sullivan and Pukis each with eight kills. Gajda recorded 14 digs on the afternoon just ahead of Troutman with 13. Cali Thompson had 30 assists.

The Pilots will next be in action on the road against San Diego Thursday night and BYU Saturday afternoon.
