EUGENE, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots led after the first quarter, but it was all Oregon after that as the Ducks used a big second-half to claim an 81-41 win on Friday night at Matthew Knight Arena. Sophomore Julie Spencer matched a career high with 14 points to lead the Pilots.
Â
Eight of those points came in the first period as the Pilots used a 16-6 run to take the early lead. Darian Slaga sparked the run with a jumper and a three, and Spencer followed with a pair of three-pointers as the Pilots led their hosts 18-16 after the first frame.
Â
The Ducks then opened the second quarter with a run before taking a 42-28 advantage into the break. Spencer had 10 points at the half.
Â
The second half was all Ducks as Oregon, who sits just out of the most recent national rankings, pulled away to improve to 7-1 on the year. The Pilots drop to 2-7.
Â
Spencer was six of nine from the field, hit both her three-point attempts, and scores 14 points for the second time in the past three games. Slaga added nine points off the bench, and reserve junior center Sara Zaragoza had a nice night, scoring seven points, while collecting six rebounds before fouling out. Sophomore Jojuan Carrington also had six boards off the bench.
Ruthy Hebard was one of five Ducks to score in double figures, finishing with a game-high 19 points as Oregon shot 51.7 percent from the field. Hebard also had 11 boards to register the double-double, and the Ducks out-rebounded the visiting Pilots by a decent margin.
Â
The Pilots next return to the Chiles Center to host the Montana State Bobcats on Sunday at 12 p.m. The game will be followed by UP's Annual Mother-Daughter Clinic.
