Complete Results SEATTLE, Wash. --- The Portland Pilots men's and women's track & field teams opened up the MPSF Championships on Friday afternoon at the Dempsy Indoor on the University of Washington campus. Anna Farello was the top Pilot finisher on the night with a second place finish in the 5,000m.
It took Farello just 16:34.55 to complete the 5,000m race, a time that sits at second all-time in program history. Her performance also gained an important eight points for the Pilots at the meet.
"Anna ran the race of her life and truly impressed me," said women's head coach Ian Solof. "She has worked tirelessly to develop into a national class runner. I couldn't be more proud of her."
In other women's action, Courtney Vacek finished her 60m heat in third with a time of 8.14; she will be back in action tomorrow competing in the triple jump. Madison Leek set a school and personal record in the 200m with a time of 25.45.
On the men's side, Jack Welch wrapped up a promising indoor season with a 200m time of 22.99. Nick Hauger was the first of eight Pilots across the line in the men's 5,000 with a time of 14:05.13 and an overall sixth place finish. Time Goehler (14
th, 14:15.86), Gabriel Haughey (17
th, 14:16.39), and Chris Enriquez (19
th, 14:18.84) were the next three harriers over the line for Portland.
Both teams sit in the 13
th spot heading into the second day of competition with the women's team claiming eight points and the men's grabbing three.
The majority of the Pilots will take to the track tomorrow including Anne Luijten and Reid Buchanan in the women's and men's 3,000m, respectively. Portland will also have a team competing in both the women's and men's 4x400m relay races to wrap up competition on Saturday afternoon.
