Women's Schedule/ResultsSALEM, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots men's and women's track & field teams opened up the outdoor season at the Willamette Opener on Saturday. Danny Martinez showed well on opening day with a pair of first place finishes in the 1,500m and the 5,000m.
Martinez's time of 3:57.60 in the 1,500m took first. Nick Doan and Sam Lomax were the next finishers for the Pilots in fourth and fifth with times of 3:59.77 and 4:00.19, respectively. Martinez continued his success in the 5,000m with a first place finish with his time of 14:56.78.
Jack Welch continued to roll with a second place finish in the men's 400m with a time of 49.49. In field events, Nathan DeVaughn won the long jump with his distance of 22' 1.5".
On the women's side, Sky Chen-Johnson took second in her section and seventh overall with a time of 13:44 in the 100m. Maria Montt, Hannah Souders, Christina Francisco, and Mariela Martinez all finished in the top seven in the 400m. In the women's field events, Pauline Reiley took fourth in the javelin with a throw of 114' 9.75".
The Pilots will next be in action on March 12 at the Saints Open in Gresham, Ore.
