Women's Schedule/ResultsPALO ALTO, Calif. --- The Portland Pilots men's and women's track & field teams had an impressive stint at the Stanford Invitational and the San Francisco State Distance Carnival on Friday and Saturday. Personal bests were seen and tickets were booked to the NCAA West Regional.
On Friday, Jeff Thies took second in the 1,500m race with his time of 3:48.92 at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival. Fellow Pilot Logan Orndorf took 15
th overall in the 101 person field with his time of 3:53.85. Nick Doan took fifth in his heat with his season's best time of 3:57.65.
"Fantastic efforts, Thies mowed a lot of guys down with a :58 last 400m, which was really impressive" said men's track & field head coach Rob Conner.
On the track at the Stanford Invitational, the Pilots saw great success for both programs.
Lauren LaRocco set a new school record and won her heat in the 10,000m with her time of 33:15.75, while Anna Farello took 12
th in the heat with a time of 34:03.67. Farello's time is the third fastest time in program history.
"I'm so proud of these two women," stated women's head track and field coach Ian Solof. "They both ran perfect races and were incredibly tough. I don' think tonight could have gone any better."
For the men, Timo Goehler ran 28:57.27 taking third in his 10,000m heat and Alex Dillard took 8
th in the same heat with his time of 29:05.98. Both runners have qualified for the NCAA West Regional with their efforts.
"Awesome running by Timo and Alex" exclaimed Conner. "Timo got a :13 PR and Alex got a :37 PR. Now they can point toward the big one in Kansas."
In field events, Nathan DeVaughn tied for fourth place in the long jump. DeVaughn and Peyton Harris of Seattle Pacific both leaped 22" 5.75'.
Saturday featured three women competing at the Stanford Invitational. Kaylie Van Loo won the javelin with her throw of 150" 7' in just her second week of action. Courtney Vacek placed second in the triple jump with her distance of 38" 8.25'. Maria Montt took thrid in her 200m heat with her time of 25.48.
The Pilots will next be in action on Friday, April 8 at the John Knight Twilight in Monmouth, Ore.
