AZUSA, Calif. --- The Portland Pilots men's and women's track & field teams capitalized at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday. Members from both teams took advantage of the Southern California conditions reaching top marks in the 1,500m.
In the men's 1,500m, Woody Kincaid (3:43.65), Jeff Thies (3:43.88), and Reid Buchanan (3:44.52) all booked tickets to the NCAA Western Regional in May.
Parkes Kendrick took the top time for the women in the 1,500m with her time of 4:22.53. Anne Luijten (4:24.15), Anna Farello (4:25.73), and Lauren LaRocco (4:26.21) rounded out the successful group.
"All four women ran great races in the 1,500m," said women's track & field head coach Ian Solof. "We had PRs, top ten marks, and regional qualifying times. This group continues to impress me every meet."
In the shorter distances, Maria Montt clocked 12.25 in the 100m and 25.20 in the 200m. Both times move her closer to the top of the all-time top ten program list. Christina Francisco and Dani Castillo were back at the 400m hurdles again finishing with times of 1:05.07 and 1:05.85, respectively.
Cobie Chavez-Killinger and Trent Mazelli both ran season bests in the 800m. Mazelli ran away during the last 250m of his heat to take a PR of 1:53.58 and Chavez-Killinger improved his time to 1:52.68.
Kaylie Van Loo threw the javelin 154' 6" and Courtney Vacek leaped 38' 1" in the triple jump.
The Pilots will look to carry their success into a pair of meets tomorrow at the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Calif. and the Pacific Open in Forest Grove, Ore.
