PORTLAND, Ore. --- Julie Spencer led three Pilots in double figures with 12 points, but the Pilots couldn't overcome the red-hot Dons and 21 points each from Rachel Howard and Anna Seilund as San Francisco claimed a 75-56 win over Portland on Thursday night at the Chiles Center. Kaylie Van Loo and Holly Blades added 10 points each for the Pilots.
Â
The Dons (10-8, 4-3 WCC) opened the game on fire from the field and didn't let up, finishing at 52 percent shooting for the game. Howard connected on four three-pointers and Seilund added three as San Francisco combined for a difference-making 12 from behind the arc.
Â
Spencer flirted with her third double-double of the year, finishing with a game-high seven rebounds. Blades had two of Portland's (3-15, 1-6 WCC) four three-pointers, and all 10 of Van Loo's points came in the second half.
Â
The Dons built a seven-point lead in the first period, but the Pilots chipped away at the deficit in the second quarter. Ashley Gray opened the frame with a lay-up, and Blades followed with a jumper moments later to keep the Pilots within reach. Kate Andersen, who provided a spark off the bench at both ends of the court, made it a four-point game when she hit all three free throws after getting fouled on a three-point attempt.
Â
But San Francisco responded and ended the half on a 10-0 run to take a 16-point lead at the break. The Dons continued their run after the half and the Pilots never got closer than 15 the rest of the way.
Â
The Pilots recorded a season-low eight turnovers and Portland's bench out-scored San Francisco's by a 19-13 margin. Andersen just missed a career-high with 10 points.
Â
Next up for the Pilots is a visit from the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Saturday, with tip-off slated for 2 p.m. at the Chiles Center.
