PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland Pilots men's soccer alum and standout MLS goalkeeper Luis Robles is one of 32 players called into the U.S. Men's National Team Camp by new head coach Bruce Arena. The annual January Camp begins on Jan. 10 at the National Training Center in Carson, Calif.
This will be the first training camp coached by Arena since he took over in November of last year, and comes just two months before Final Round Qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup resumes.
Robles was a four-year starter at UP (2003-06) and he is tied for the most saves all-time in program history with 346 stops. His 21 career shutouts rank fourth all-time at Portland, while his 1.18 career goals-against average ranks eighth. A three-time First Team All-West Coast Conference selection, Robles was named the 2006 WCC Defensive Player of the Year.
Robles has enjoyed a decorated career with the New York Red Bulls, which included being named the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2015. Robles has two career caps with the full men's national team.
The U.S. is set to begin the 2017 campaign with a friendly against Serbia on Jan. 29 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, Calif. Kickoff for Arena's first match back in charge of the U.S. MNT is set for 1 p.m., and will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and UniMas.
