TULSA, Okla. – Portland men's tennis senior Michail Pervolarakis lost to Ohio State's John McNally in the second round of the Qualifying Singles Draw on Tuesday at the
Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships.
Pervolarakis, ranked No. 95 in the
ITA Preseason Singles Rankings, defeated Georgia's Robert Loeb on Monday in straight sets to advance. McNally, ranked No. 923 in the
ATP World Rankings, is the No. 2-ranked newcomer in college tennis according to the
ITA Preseason Rankings. He prevailed by a 6-1, 6-3 margin on Tuesday morning at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Pervolarakis partnered with fellow senior Mathieu Garcia in the Qualifying Doubles Draw on Monday. The Pilot duo opened with a 7-5, 6-4 win against the Texas Tech tandem of Tommy Mylnikov and Alex Sendegeya, but were knocked out by the No. 51 ranked team in the nation, McNally and JJ Wolf of Ohio State, in the second round.
The Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships annually feature the top talent from around the nation. Portland's last representation at the event was in 2001 where Travis Parrott participated in singles and teamed with Peter Malacek for doubles.
The Pilots will next take the court at the Dar Walters Fall Classic hosted by Boise State on Oct. 6-7.
