PORTLAND, Ore. --- First-team selections Paul Christensen and Rachel Lusby highlight 12 Pilots total to receive West Coast Conference Soccer All-Academic honors, which was announced on Wednesday. Eight women's soccer players were honored, while four from the men's side received all-academic accolades.
Â
Christensen, a senior goalkeeper from Woodinville, Wash., has previously earned league all-academic honorable mention twice. The two-time reigning WCC Goalkeeper of the Year, Christensen led the conference in shutouts for the second consecutive year, producing six clean sheets overall. His three shutouts against league opponents were also tops in the league, as was his 1.11 goals against average. A four-year starter, Christensen ends his career No. 5 all-time in program history in both shutouts (20) and saves (283). He's history major with a cumulative GPA of 3.36.
Â
Lusby is a junior goalkeeper with a GPA of 3.58 in business, and this is the first league all-academic honor for the Beaverton native. A first-team All-WCC selection, Lusby had a breakout season for the Pilots, starting all 19 games between the pipes. She ranked second in WCC in saves (96), and she was third in both save percentage (.807) and saves per game (5.05). She recorded a career-high 11 saves during Portland's win at LMU, and she posted three shutouts this fall. The junior currently ranks first all-time in UP program history in career saves per game (4.18), she ranks sixth in overall saves (159), and is 10th in save percentage (.783).
Â
Earning all-academic honorable mention for the Portland women are seniors Hannah Griffiths Boston, Ariel Viera and Kaycie Young, and sophomores Lucy Davidson, Kimberly Hazlett, Natalie Muth and Larkin Russell. The Portland men receiving all-academic honorable mention are seniors Matthew Coffey and Erik Edwardson, and redshirt-freshman Billy Garton.
Â
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average while also being a significant contributor to her team.
