WOODLAND, Calif. – The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Executive Director, Al Beaird, announced the All-Academic MPSF Scholar-Athletes for the 2017 men's and women's indoor track & field season last Friday, with Fourteen Pilots earning honors for their performances on the track and in the class room.
Student-athletes are eligible for the award based on the criteria of having a 3.00 or better cumulative grade point average, having at least a sophomore academic status, completing one full academic year at the institution prior to the season for which the award is being received, and competing in fifty percent or more of the institution's competition in the student-athlete's respective sport.
Along with earning All-Academic honors, several of these Pilots made their marks on the UP record books at the MPSF championships earlier this season. Senior Madison Leek moved up to second all-time in the 60m with her time of 7.88, while juniors Grace McConnochie and Mathile Sagnes recorded indoor prs of 16:33.92 and 16:48.44 in the 5000m to land second and eighth all time in the records, respectively. Sophomore Lauren LaRocco and junior Taryn Rawlings finished up the Championships by setting new records, LaRocco in the 3000m (9:12.16) and Rawlings in the mile (4:40.78). Rawlings also moved up in the record books in the 3000m (9:22.62) to third all-time, and senior Anna Farello finished her 3000m in 9:24.17 to move up to fourth.
Sophomore Trent Mazelli also ran well at the meet for the men recording a huge pr in the 800m (4:10.89) for a fourth place finish in his heat.
