Postrace Interview With Noah Schutte
EUGENE, Ore. --- Junior Jeff Thies claimed first team All-American at the conclusion of 1500m final, while sophomore Noah Schutte earned second team All-American in the 3000m Steeplechase final, this evening at the NCAA Championships. The two Pilots make three All-Americans for Portland after senior Grace McConnochie also earned second team All-American last night in the 10,000m.
"Jeff ran a great race and did nearly everything perfectly," said head coach Rob Conner. "He moved up in the middle and kicked well to get the podium spot. His prelim race was equivalent to a 3:58 mile so he was just a little tired today. He was still only :01 from second place so it was a tremendous effort!"
Â
Thies finished in 3:44.59 to place seventh overall, while Schutte crossed the line in 9:04.87 for a 12
th place finish. Â
"Noah has had a great spring and though he is disappointed with his 12th place finish, I am not at all," continued Conner. "He is already highly motivated for next year!"
The top eight in the final of each event at the outdoor championships earns the status of first team All-American, the following eight earn second team, and the eight after that earn All-American honorable mention.
