PORTLAND, Ore. --- Six Pilots scored in double figures and Kate Andersen claimed a double-double as Portland rolled to an 88-45 win over the Puget Sound Loggers in a women's basketball exhibition game played on Saturday at the Chiles Center. Darian Slaga led the Pilots with a team-high 16 points.
Â
The Pilots jumped ahead early in the first quarter and never looked back en route to the win. Freshman Haylee Andrews gave the Pilots their first double-digit lead of the game when she hit a lay-up, and it would swell to 20 points with the help of a lay-in by Lisa-Marie Kaempf moments later.
Â
Portland continued to knock down shots from the floor, and with less than four minutes left in the first half, the lead had grown to 30 points. Slaga already had 14 points at the break as the Pilots led 48-20.
Â
Sophomore Jayce Gorzeman provided some offense in the second half as she connected on a handful of three-pointers. Her shots from deep allowed the Pilots to expand their advantage, and the clock would eventually run out on the Loggers.
Â
Portland shot nearly 50 percent from the field, and Gorzeman connected on all three of her three-point attempts to register 10 points off the bench.
Â
Julie Spencer and Maddie Muhlheim both chipped in 13 points for the Pilots, and Muhlheim drained a trio of three's. Andrews was solid in her collegiate debut, finishing with 11 points and a game-high eight assists. Andersen was Portland's top rebounder with 11 boards as the Pilots claimed a sizable 50-28 edge on the glass. The junior also scored 12 points.
Â
Raeann Allen led the Loggers with 18 points, while Giavanna Sorn added 13. The Pilots held Puget Sound to just 25 percent shooting on the night.
Â
Portland now opens the regular season next weekend on the road, when they travel to Orem, Utah, to face the Utah Valley Wolverines on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
