PORTLAND, Ore. --- Senior Julie Spencer led six Pilots to score in double figures with 20 points and freshman Haylee Andrews recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 assists as the Pilots cruised past Warner Pacific 98-63 on Friday night at the Chiles Center. All 12 available players scored for the Pilots.
Â
The win improves Portland's record to 6-2 on the year.
Â
Spencer dominated the paint, shooting nine of 11 on the night. She also knocked down a three-pointer, and six of her game-high nine rebounds came on the offensive glass.
Â
Darian Slaga was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line en route to 15 points as the Portland senior has reached double digits in points during all eight games this season. Junior Kate Andersen added a season-high 14, and sophomore Maddie Muhlheim chipped in with 11 points.
Â
Sophomore Jayce Gorzeman hit both of her three-point attempts, shot 4-for-5 overall, and collected a career-best 10 points.Â
Muhlheim opened the scoring for the Pilots with a three-pointer early in the first quarter, and moments later Spencer gave Portland its first double-digit lead when she converted a fast break lay-up on a nice feed from Slaga. The lead would grow from there before the Knights cut into the deficit in the second quarter.Â
Portland recovered, and 12-2 run allowed the Pilots to surge ahead 45-26. Gorzeman claimed seven of the points on a pair of lay-ups and a three-pointer, and Josie Matz finished off a fast break with a lay-up to give the Pilots a 19-point cushion, their largest lead to that point.Â
Spencer led all scorers at the break with 16 points.Â
Portland's lead would grow in the third as Andersen provided some rebounding and offense off the bench. First, she hit a pull-up jumper in the paint, then she converted consecutive put-backs to hand the Pilots a 34-point lead. Slaga also claimed a tip-in on an offensive rebound, and the period ended with Portland on top 74-39.Â
The Pilots extended their advantage in the final quarter as they emptied the bench.
Â
Gabrielle Bruno led the Knights with 14 points.Â
The Pilots next remain at home to host the Willamette Bearcats on Sunday, with tip-off set for 2 p.m.
