PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland's Hunter Montgomery crushed his second home run of the year, Tate Budnick had another stellar performance out of the bullpen, and the Pilots completed the season sweep of the Oregon Ducks with a 2-1 win on a picture-perfect Wednesday night at Joe Etzel Field. The Pilots also defeated the Ducks earlier this season in Eugene.

Budnick, who earned his second save of the spring, was masterful in 5.0 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits. He struck out five and didn't walk a batter, and he extended his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 14.2 innings.

The win goes to reliever Christian Peters (1-1), who also held the Ducks scoreless in 1.1 innings of work. Peters and Budnick combined to hold Oregon (19-19) without a hit for 5.1 innings, which stretched from the top of third to the top of the eighth.

Montgomery gave the Pilots (16-24) an early one-run lead when he stepped to the plate with two outs and the bases empty in the bottom of the second inning. The freshman catcher than belted the first pitch he saw deep to left field, which easily cleared the fence and the trees just beyond.

The Ducks answered with the tying run in the top of the third when Ryne Nelson and Taylor Travess hit back-to-back doubles.

But that's all the offense Oregon could produce as the Pilots limited their visitors to just four hits.

Portland scored what would prove to be the game-winning run in the home half of the third, which was fueled by a Beau Brundage two-out single. Brundage stole second after reaching safely, and Daniel Lopez claimed the RBI when he sent a double down the left field line, easily scoring Brundage.

Brundage, Lopez, and Matt Kelly each had two hits for the Pilots, who finished with nine overall.

The night also marked the return to the mound for Portland junior Kevin Baker, who made his first appearance of the season after working his way back from an injury. Baker, who was on a limited pitch count, retired the Ducks in order in both the first and second innings, which included a pair of strike outs. He did allow the Oregon run in the third before giving way to Peters with two outs.

Oregon used five pitchers, with the loss going to reliever Zack Noll (0-1).

The Pilots next remain at home this weekend when they welcome the Pacific Tigers to The Bluff for a three-game West Coast Conference series. Friday's opener is set for 6 p.m.
