SEATTLE, Wash. --- The Portland Pilots men's and women's track team concluded the first day of competition at the UW Invite with several solid performances.
 
Senior Becca Howard started off the night finishing 14
th overall in the women's 5000m, posting a 12 second PR to record a new personal best of 17:04.14. Sophomore Thomas Salas followed up Howard placing 31
st overall in 15:12.19, also in the 5000m.
"Becca Howard did a great job finishing second in her heat," said women's head coach Ian Solof. "She ran tough and ended up with a nice PR."
 
The Pilots then entered two teams in each of the men's and women's distance medleys. On the women's side, Portland's A group placed 19
th (11:54.03) overall, with the B team finishing 25
th (12:07.57). The A squad for the men crossed the line in 14
th place (10:15.65) with the B squad just behind them finishing 16
th (10:21.59).
 
Both teams will be back in action tomorrow at the UW Invite, with Maya Murphy-Cook leading Portland with the first race of the day at 10:15 a.m. in the women's 60m dash.
