SEATTLE, Wash. --- The Portland Pilots men's and women's track and field teams concluded the first day of competition at the MPSF Championships on Friday evening. Over half of the Pilots who competed recorded new personal bests on the day.
 
Junior Maya Murphy-Cook started off the day recording a new personal record of 9.36 in the women's 60m hurdles. All three Portland women in the 5000m race also recorded new PRs as well, led by senior Sophia Noto who finished the race in 13^th place (17:21). R-Sophomore Stella Gillman was just behind Noto in 16^th place (17:28.25), with senior Virag Weiler just behind her in 18^th (17:34.74). Junior Michal Jones also ran a solid 200m race, recording a new PB of 26.71.

"Sophia Noto and Stella Gillman both did a great job in the 5k, picking up big PRs,"  said women's head coach Ian Solof. "They were tough down the stretch and looked great at the end. Michal Jones also had a strong 200 to earn an indoor PR."
 
On the men's side, though junior Emmanuel Roudolff-Levisse recorded the fastest finish for the Pilots on the evening in the 5000m, but it was r-freshman Justin Hazell and junior Cole Shugart who posted new personal records with times of 14:24.56 and 14:46.63, respectively. In the men's distance medley, seniors Caleb Webb, Jack Welch, and Noah Schutte, along with junior Malcolm Roux broke the previous UP Indoor record of 10:13.11, with a new time of 10:01.60.
 
Both teams will next be in action for day two of the MPSF Championships starting tomorrow at 11:00 am.
