• The Pilots split their two home games last week, securing a 78-65 win over Saint Mary's on Saturday after a narrow 77-73 loss to Pacific on Thursday.
• Against the Tigers, the Pilots built a 12-point lead early in the third quarter before Pacific rallied for the win.
• Haylee Andrews scored a team-high 21 points, and Alex Fowler collected a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
• Both Andrews and Fowler registered a double-double on Saturday as the Pilots claimed the 13-point win.
• With 15 points and a career-high 12 assists, Andrews just missed matching a program record for most assists in a game by one.
• Fowler had 19 points and 11 boards for her fourth double-double this year.
Â
ABOUT THE PILOTS
• During the win over Saint Mary's, sophomore guard Haylee Andrews dished a career-best 12 assists, which missed matching a program record for assists in a game by one.
• Earlier this season, Portland also just missed matching a program single-game DI record by one when they tallied 24 assists at CSUN.
• Freshman Alex Fowler is off to a stellar start to her career, and she currently leads the WCC with a 16.4 points per game mark.
• Fowler, a forward, posted two double-doubles during her first four collegiate games, she's recorded a double-double in each of the last two games, and she's scored at least 20 points a team-best five times this season.
• She's also second in the conference in field goal percentage (.537), and she's 21st in the country in field goals made (110).
• Fowler is one of two Pilots to be named the WCC Player of the Week (Nov. 25) this season when she averaged 23.5 points and 7.0 rebounds during Portland's games at CSUN and Air Force; Fowler exploded for a career-high 27 points against the Matadors, and she was 19 of 25 (.760) from the field overall.
• Haylee Andrews was the league's inaugural player of the week (Nov. 11) after she averaged 23 points and 8.5 rebounds during Portland's two season-opening wins.
• Andrews posted a double-double against Utah State with 18 points and a career-best 13 rebounds, and she poured in 28 points against the Weber State; she also shot 67% from the field.
• The Pilots began the season 4-0 for only the third time ever in program history, and it was the first time since 2010-11.
• At 2-3 in the WCC, the Pilots have won two of their first five conference games for the first time since 2013-14.
• The Pilots lead the league in both assists (17.8) and steals (11.1), they're second in margin of victory (+7.8) and three-point field goal percentage defense (.269), and they're third in field goal percentage (.444).
• Portland is 16th nationally in assists and 22nd in steals.
• On Jan. 4, the Pilots won 57-48 at BYU, ending a 20-game losing streak to the Cougars; it was the first win for Portland over BYU since the 1998-99 season.
• Portland has just one senior on the roster, local product Kate Andersen (Jesuit HS), who's averaging a career-high 13.6 points; she ranks 17th nationally in steals (3.0).
• Andersen scored a season-high 21 points against Abilene Christian (Nov. 29), and earlier this year she registered her second career double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds during a win at Air Force (11/23).
• Maddie Muhlheim ranks sixth all-time at UP with 150 career three-pointers, and last year she set a program single-game record when she buried nine three's against USD.
• She's currently second in the conference in three-pointers per game (2.2).
• The Pilots are under the guidance of first-year head coach Michael Meek.
• In nine years at George Fox, Meek led the Bruins to eight NCAA DIII Tournaments, which included national title game appearances in 2012 and 2015.
• Meek ranks fourth in career winning percentage (239-42, .851) among active coaches with five-plus years of experience at all divisions of women's college basketball.
• First-year assistant coach Sharon Rissmiller ('01) is a UP alum who starred on the court for the Pilots from 1997 to 2001; she still ranks ninth all-time with a .770 career free throw percentage, and she compiled 1,069 career points.
• Portland has been to four NCAA Tournaments (1994-97), two WNIT's (1998 & 2009) and one WBI (2010).
