PORTLAND, Ore. --- Goalkeeper Lute Lillo Portero, who originally hails from El Altet, Spain, has committed to the University of Portland men's soccer program and will have three years of eligibility remaining, announced head coach Nick Carlin-Voigt. Lillo Portero was named to the Atlantic Sun Conference Second Team last season after his one year with the Stetson Hatters.
Â
Lillo Portero started all 20 matches and played every minute in goal as a freshman for the Hatters, posting five shutouts overall. He was also named the conference defensive player of the week after recording a pair of wins, including a clean sheet, to begin the season.
Â
Prior to coming to the states, Lillo Portero won two Spanish U18 Championships with Sevilla FC.
Â
"We are excited to add Lute to our soccer family here on The Bluff as he was highly recruited by many different programs around the country," Carlin-Voigt said. "He was captain as a freshman for his college team and will come in immediately and compete for the starting position. He is a strong shot stopper who can manage his box while also being the first line of our attack with his ability to build the game. Lute is a great student as well and will bring experience in the goal to our returning group. I'm excited to get Lute on campus so we can continue to help him develop in our culture." Â
Â
Lillo Portero is part of Portland's sixth-ranked (Top Drawer Soccer) recruiting class, which will be announced in its entirety during the upcoming weeks.
