PORTLAND, Ore. --- Kris Reaves, a former all-region and all-conference center back for the Pilots, is joining the University of Portland men's soccer staff as a graduate assistant, announced head coach Nick Carlin-Voigt. Reaves spent two years (2017-18) with the Pilots before signing a homegrown contract with FC Dallas of MLS.
"I am excited to be back working with UP men's soccer, a program that means a lot to me with a staff and community that I love," Reaves said. "The support they have given me over the years has been great and I will use my time here as a graduate assistant to help move the program forward."
In 2016, Reaves was voted to the All-West Coast Conference First Team and he landed on the NSCAA All-Far West Region Third Team. He helped the Pilots collect a league-best seven shutouts on the year, and Portland won its first WCC Championship since 2002 to advance to the NCAA Tournament.
As a senior in 2017, Reaves again earned all-conference recognition as the Pilots recorded a league-best six shutouts on the year. It was after that season when Reaves joined the MLS side FC Dallas.
Reaves made is pro debut with FC Dallas in June of 2018 during a win over Minnesota United. He spent the 2019 season with the Colorado Springs Switchbacks of the USL Championship.
"Super exited to welcome Kris back to our coaching staff in our new role of graduate assistant," said Carlin-Voigt. "Kris represented our youth team teams, captained our WCC Championship group, graduated from UP, and reached his boyhood dream of playing in Major League Soccer. Kris is a selfless leader who's not afraid of working hard and is excited to learn and grow as our newest staff member. Kris picked the Portland Pilot program as one of my first recruits and I'm so excited to have him back helping out behind the scenes as a role model to our current and future Pilots."
