PORTLAND, Ore. – The accolades keep coming for Pilot soccer. Just one day removed from men's and women's soccer sweeping the WCC Player of the Week awards, men's soccer defender Delentz Pierre has been named to the TopDrawerSoccer (TDS) Team of the Week, the first such honor Pierre has earned this season.
It's the second time this season that a Pilot has been named to the TDS Team of the Week this season. Defender Kevin Bonilla was the first Pilot to earn the honor after he scored the game-winning goal in Portland's 1-0 victory over UCLA on Sept. 10. The win marked the first for the Pilots over UCLA in the regular season and the first on the road.
The recognition comes after Pierre played the full 94 minutes for the Pilots in their impressive 1-0 win over the No. 15 Loyola Marymount Lions. Pierre anchored a back line that shut down the Lions and helped Portland earn their fifth shutout of the season. The win over LMU was also Portland's first win over a ranked opponent this season.
After missing last season due to injury, Pierre has worked his way back into the rotation and has helped the Pilots' back line immensely. Pierre was named to the All-WCC Freshman Team back in 2019 after playing in all 17 matches (16 starts) and tallying two goals and one assist. He was named to the All-WCC Preseason Team for the 2020-21 season.
The Pilots are set to play the Gonzaga Bulldogs this Wednesday at 7 p.m. here at Merlo Field. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats, video and ticket options.
