STOCKTON, Calif.---The Pacific Tigers held off the Portland Pilots 3-0 in a West Coast Conference volleyball match at Alex G. Spanos Center on Saturday afternoon. Pacific prevailed on their home court with set scores of 25-17, 25-18, and 25-16.
Â
Jayde Harris led the visitors with a team-high eight kills, Noelani Helm provided 13 assists, and Alyssa Muraoka came up with 12 digs in the match.
Â
Kills from Jiana Lawson and Charity Bradley kept the Pilots (5-16, 2-10 WCC) level with Pacific (10-13, 7-5 WCC) at 4-4 to open the game, but the home side would score four in a row in the next rallies to maintain the first slight edge of the set soon after. Another solid run shortly following would allow the Tigers to create some separation, but Portland would answer to it with four scores of their own—provided by a Bradley service ace and an attack off the hand of Harris to set the score at 19-14 with Pacific out in front. The Tigers would manage their advantage through the end to go ahead 1-0 overall after the first frame.
Â
Sophomore Jiana Lawson got the Pilots on the board first to begin set two, and Harris and Chelsey Harmon drove home kills shortly following to bring the Pilots within one of UOP at 4-3. Lawson then came up with a solo stuff at the net before another denial with Bradley to keep the Pilots close, and Harris produced both a kill and an ace shortly following to tie the frame at 11s. The two sides would trade points on the next few plays, with another score from Bradley eventually drawing the match once more at 15-all. That's when the Tigers produced a short run to regain an edge, and they would hold on to close out the set win for a 2-0 advantage on the match.
Â
The Tigers carried some of that momentum straight into the third installment, jumping out in front early and managing a steady lead throughout to seal the game.
Â
The Pilots return to the Chiles Center next week for two ranked matchups, hosting 20th-ranked San Diego on Thursday, November 4th at 6 p.m. before seeing seventh-ranked BYU on Saturday, November 6th at 12 p.m.
