PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Pilot baseball announced on Tuesday their schedule for the 2022 spring season.
"I'm excited to announce the 2022 schedule. For us it means spring is just around the corner," Portland head coach Geoff Loomis said. "We have a tough Creighton program coming to Portland for the opening homestand and then we'll get battle-tested on the road for the next several weeks in California leading up to conference play. We have some solid midweek home games against Pac-12 opponents and five big WCC series at Joe Etzel Field that fans will be excited about. The WCC will once again be loaded top-to-bottom and we look forward to that challenge this spring."
The Pilots will open the 2022 season here at Joe Etzel Field, hosting the Creighton Blue Jays for a four-game series from Feb. 18-20, with a doubleheader taking place on the 19th. The Pilots will then hit the road for their first road series against the San Jose State Spartans starting on Feb. 25, another four-game matchup.
Portland will be on the road for eight games before beginning WCC play on March 17
th with a three-game series at home against the BYU Cougars. The Pilots will have an eight-game homestand starting with the BYU series, which will feature matchups against the Seattle U Redhawks (March 22), the San Francisco Dons (March 25-27) and the Washington Huskies (March 29).
The Pilots will play their final home games from May 11-17, starting with a single game against the Utah Valley Wolverines on May 11 and followed by a three-game series against the Saint Mary's Gaels from May 13-15. In the home finale, Portland will welcome the Washington State Cougars to The Bluff on May 17.
The Pilots will finish the regular season on the road with a three-game series against the Pepperdine Waves from May 20-22. Should the Pilots make the four-team WCC Tournament, they'd play those games from May 26-29.
Portland's schedule also features several matchups against top-tier Pac-12 squads. They will play a home-and-home series against three Pac-12 teams: The Oregon State Beavers, the Oregon Ducks and the Washington Huskies. They'll play the Ducks first in Eugene on March 8 before taking on the Huskies in Seattle on March 15. Portland's first game against the Beavers will take place on April 5.
The Pilots will host the Huskies on March 29 and the Ducks on April 19 to finish off those series. They'll play their final game against the Beavers in Corvallis on May 10. They also have a home-and-home series against Seattle U, hosting the Redhawks at Joe Etzel Field on March 22 and traveling to Seattle on May 3.
Portland put together their best season with Loomis at the helm in 2021, finishing 24-26 overall with a 14-13 record in WCC play. That conference mark was their best since the 2010 season, when the Pilots went 14-7 against conference opponents. The Pilots had nine players named to All-WCC teams, the third-most in the WCC.
