SAN MATEO, Calif. – Portland men's goalkeeper Jacopo Viola has been named the University Credit Union West Coast Conference defensive player of the week after shutting out No. 11 Loyola Marymount on Sunday.
Viola made his first start for the Pilots and was stellar between the pipes. The Milan, Italy graduate student recorded six saves to preserve the shutout in the 0-0 draw. He becomes the first Portland player to win a conference weekly award this season.
The Pilots (1-2-1, 0-1-1 WCC) will return to WCC action this Sunday at Gonzaga with a 1 p.m. kickoff.
