SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Portland Pilots will play their final away WCC match this Sunday, Apr. 11 against the San Francisco Dons. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. with live stats and video available at PortlandPilots.com.
The Pilots are 3-3-2 overall and 1-2-2 in conference play after being picked to finish third in the WCC in the annual preseason coaches poll. They had two players selected to the 2020-21 All-WCC preseason team in midfielder Luke Hendel and defender Delentz Pierre. In their most recent match, the Pilots fell to the Santa Clara Broncos 2-0 on the road.
The Dons are 4-4-1 this season and 3-2-1 in WCC play. They were picked to finish last in the conference this preseason but are currently third in the WCC standings. In their most recent match, they tied the No. 10 Loyola Marymount Lions 0-0 in double overtime. Senior goalkeeper Alejandro Munoz was named WCC Defensive Player of the Week for his effort in the match. Sunday also marks USF's final match of the regular season.
Portland has the edge in the all-time series against the Dons with a 12-7-1 record. The Pilots took a 1-0 win in their most recent matchup on Nov. 2, 2019, but San Francisco has come out on top in four of the last six matchups between the two squads.
After this, the Pilots will be back home for a midweek match against the Corban Warriors and their regular season finale against the No. 23 Saint Mary's Gaels. They'll play Corban on Wednesday, Apr. 14 at 5 p.m. and the Gaels on Saturday, Apr. 17 at 1 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PortlandPilots.com.
