SAN BRUNO, Calif. – After a strong showing in both of the Portland Pilots' WCC matchups, Alex Fowler has been named the WCC Player of the Week. It is the second time this year she has earned the award.
Fowler's week was highlighted by her 32 points and 13 rebounds in Portland's overtime win over the Santa Clara Broncos. 10 of her points came in the overtime period for the Pilots, more than Santa Clara scored in those five minutes. This was the 14
th game where Fowler has led the Pilots in scoring and also the third game where she's gotten a double-double. Earlier in the week, Fowler also put up a team-high 19 points and six boards in a close loss to the Gonzaga Bulldogs.
The Townsville, Australia native also moved up in the record books for the Pilots. Fowler moved up to eighth all-time in program history for career rebounds with 583 and eighth all-time in career points with 1,317 among Pilots who only played NCAA Division I basketball. Her race to 1,300 points was quicker than any Pilot before her as well at only 75 games played.
Fowler has been one of the best posts in the WCC all season long. Her 17.9 points and eight rebounds per game both rank third in the conference and she currently leads the WCC in field-goal percentage (55.8) and field goals made (115). In WCC play alone, Fowler is averaging 21.5 points per game along with eight rebounds on 62.5% shooting.
The Portland Pilots are 12-4 on the season and 2-2 in WCC play, which is their best record through 16 games since the 1996-97 season. This week, they're on the road in Southern California with games against the San Diego Toreros and Pepperdine Waves.
