PORTLAND, Ore --The Portland Pilots scored 31 points off of turnovers on the way to a 94-45 victory against the Warner Pacific Knights at home Wednesday in an exhibition showdown.
The Pilots had three players score in double figures, led by Alex Fowler, who had 17 points and three steals. Florence Dallow added 17 points off of the bench and Emma Strelein helped out with 10 points off the bench. Emme Shearer pulled down three offensive rebounds to lead an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Portland, grabbing 18 boards and turning them into 16 second chance points.
The Portland defense was a problem in Wednesday's game, forcing 34 Warner Pacific turnovers while committing 19. Those takeaways turned into 31 points on the offensive end of the floor. McKelle Meek's four steals led the way individually for the Pilots.
How It Happened
Portland started out the scoring by going on a 10-0 run to take an early lead in the first. Portland did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 16 of its 28 points at the basket and leading 28-8 after one.
The Pilots kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 14-0 run starting the second period, increasing their lead to 42-10. The Pilots proceeded to tack on nine points to that lead and enjoyed a 55-14 advantage heading into halftime. Portland was strong from deep in the period, knocking down five three-point shots to account for 15 of its 27 second-quarter points.
Portland wasted no time building on its lead, expanding their lead to 60-14 with 7:39 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Knights had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Pilots still entered the fourth quarter with a 69-26 edge. Portland knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter to score six of its 14 total points.
Portland started tacking on points in the fourth almost immediately, going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Dallow's three, to grow the lead to 75-26 with 8:47 to go in the contest. The Pilots held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 94-45 win. Dallow scored all 17 of her points in the final quarter.
