FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Cathal Doyle advanced to the quarterfinals of the 1,500-meter run to highlight day one for the Portland Pilots at the NCAA West Preliminary hosted at John McConnell Field on Wednesday.
Doyle placed fifth in Heat 2 to earn a qualifying spot in Friday's 1,500-meter quarterfinals with a time of 3:46.05). Chris Morzenti posted the 16th best time among the 48 participants (3:44.91), but was two spots shy of qualifying based off of his time after placing ninth in a fast Heat 2. Matt Strangio (3:55.61) and George Duggan (4:03.07) also represented the Pilots in the event.
The evening closed with Bradley Peloquin and Jacob Klemz competing in the men's 10,000-meter Semifinals. Peloquin finished in 28th place with a time of 29:30.57. Klemz did not finish, but is also slated to race in the men's 5,000-meter Semifinals on Friday.
The Pilots will have two women take the track on Thursday will Laura Pellicoro competing in the 800-meter first round and Emma Jenkins taking the track in the 1,500-meter first round.
