EUGENE, Ore. – Laura Pellicoro placed sixth in her 800-meter semifinals heat Thursday at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted at Hayward Field. Pellicoro recorded a time of 2:05.59 to finish 20th overall among semifinal competitors. The top two runners from each of the three heats and next three best times advanced to Saturday's finals.
Pellicoro capped a phenomenal sophomore season by qualifying for nationals at both the indoor and outdoor championships. She broke the Indoor Mile school record with a time of 4:34.45 to qualify for nationals and then broke the 800-meter program record at the NCAA West Prelims with a time of 2:03.17. She also ran the second fastest 1,500-meter run (4:15.30) and cracked the top 10 in the 400-meter run (57.77) this spring.
Portland track and field made it 29 of the last 30 years with at least one representative at the NCAA Championships. Cathal Doyle qualified in the men's 1,500 and raced his semifinals on Wednesday.
