SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Portland Pilots had three players earn All-WCC honors this season for their performance, with Alex Fowler making her fourth All-WCC First Team, Maisie Burnham making the second team and Emme Shearer earning honorable mention.
Fowler was dominant this year as one of the best players at the mid-major level. She led the WCC this season in points per game (17.6) and field-goal percentage (58.2), ranked second free throws made (123), third in total points (509), fourth in steals per game (1.72) and field goals (185) and seventh in assists per game (3.3). She was one of 11 players this year in Division I to average at least 17.5 points, five rebounds, three assists and 1.5 steals per contest.
Fowler hit several impressive individual milestones as well. She became just the second Pilot in program history to hit 2,000 points and became the all-time leading scorer and rebounder for the Pilots at the Division I level. Among active players, she ranks 16th in career points 2,070 and eighth in career field goals made (810). She is the only Pilot to ever make four All-WCC First Teams.
Burnham has been a quality player for the Pilots as well, starting every game except one, the senior-day game where all seniors started. She averages 10.8 points per contest and is second on the Pilots in both points per game and total points (314). She is 19th and 15th conference-wise in those respective categories. This is the first time she has earned All-WCC honors with the Pilots.
Shearer earns All-WCC recognition for the second time in her career, having made the freshman team back in the 2020-21 season. Shearer was third on the team in scoring with 289 total points and an average of 10 points per game. She scored a career-high 21 points twice against San Francisco and also recorded the only double-double for the Pilots this year, doing so against LMU on Jan. 19.
The Pilots have experienced one of the best regular seasons in program history, going 21-8 overall and 15-3 in conference play. Their 21 wins are the most they've had in the regular season alone since the 1996-97 season and their 15 WCC wins are the most in program history.
Portland secured the No. 2 seed in the 2023 University Credit Union WCC Tournament and have earned a bye straight to the semifinals. The team will play on Monday, March 6 at 2:30 p.m. against an opponent yet to be determined. Stay tuned to PortlandPilots.com for more information.
