PROVO, Utah -- The Portland Pilots scored 19 runs over five innings and 22 in total in their series-clinching 22-8 win over the BYU Cougars.
Nick Brink (3-0) got the win for Portland (24-18, 13-8). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on seven hits, allowing one walk and striking out five.
Jake Holcroft went 3-for-6 with a double and a triple in addition to his five RBI's for the Pilots. Zach Toglia furnished a standout performance at the dish as well, going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI's. Henry Muench also contributed for Portland, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding four RBI's.
How it Happened
The Pilots scored in six different innings on the way to the win. Portland broke a 0-0 tie and took the lead for good at 1-0 in the first inning on an RBI single off the bat of senior Nich Klemp. Toglia's sac fly made it 2-0 Portland after one.
Evan Scavotto added an RBI single in the second before BYU got on the board in the bottom frame. The Pilots' scoring explosion began in the fifth, with Toglia's homer bringing in two runs, Jake Tsukada's double bringing in another and a sac fly from Henry Muench bringing in the next. It was 7-1 Pilots after five.
Muench put the Pilots on the board again with an RBI single in the seventh. The Pilots scored five runs in the inning, one off a sacrifice hit fro Patacsil, two more off Holcroft's triple and one more off a wild pitch. BYU added a run in the bottom frame, but Portland still led 12-2 after seven.
The Pilots added 10 runs in the final two innings to cement their victory. In the eighth, Muench, Holcroft and Scavotto all drove in runs for Portland to put it at 17-2. The following inning, Muench once again drove in a run along with pinch hitters Ethan Loveless and Vinny Salvione to make it 22-2 Pilots. The Cougars scored six runs in the ninth, but it was too little too late.

» Portland got three-hit games from four different hitters.
» Brink struck out five Cougars hitters in his seven-inning outing.
» The Pilots power output was led by Holcroft, who compiled two extra base hits in the ballgame. Toglia also added his seventh home run of the series.
» Holcroft and Muench drove in at least four runs for Portland. Holcroft's five RBI's are a season high, as well as Muench's four.
» Every Portland starter reached base safely in the win. They did so in every game this series.
» Portland scored 15 runs over three innings and 19 over five.

» The Pilots had a total of 21 hits, tying a season high. Their 22 runs and 21 RBI's were also all season highs.
» The Pilots out-hit the Cougars at a 21-12 clip.
» Portland went 10-for-17 (.588) with runners in scoring position.
» The Pilots got four hits in six at-bats with the bases loaded.
» Portland pitchers faced 42 BYU hitters in the game, allowing nine ground balls and nine fly balls while striking out eight.
» The Pilots drew 10 walks from BYU pitching.
» The Pilots have won the season series against BYU three years in a row. That's the first time they've done that in program history.
» Portland's 42 runs were the most they've had this season in a three-game series.
